GSI addresses four major areas which impact community growth and well being. These areas include education, health, social, and economic issues in the Greater Yazoo County, Mississippi area.

Education Programs
GSI collaborates with school districts within central Mississippi to help connect students with educational programs to address learning deficiencies. This collaboration involves helping to concect students especially in pre K and grades 1 – 12 to learning resources to assure that they have the fundamental skills of reading, writing, mathematics, and language to prepare them for success in higher grades. GSI provides a learning tract for parents to play an active role in their child’s education and social skill development through:
- Learning how to interact with their teen behaviorally, socially, psychologically, physically, and emotionally.
- Providing skills to assist their teen with class assignments and homework.
- Learning how to cope with peer pressure in their community.
GSI accesses and addresses educational needs of special needs children by assisting in:
- Connection to aggressive interventions in the areas of: behavior, education, sensory, and social skills.
- Through collaboration with community members, exposing children to occupations, sports, arts and crafts, and cultures that are rarely exposed to.
Other educational programs helps to address, Low Academic Achievement; School Drop-out; Acquisition of qualified teachers; After-school Programs; College Preparatory Programs; Vocational/Technical School Programs; Adult Basic Education/GED Programs and Parent Empowerment Programs
Health Programs (Physical and Mental)
GSI collaborates with agencies such as the Mississippi State Department of Health’s Office of STD/HIV, Division of Family Planning, Division of Youth Services, and other agency programs to offer age appropriated education on various health related topics such as sexually transmitted diseases, reproductive health including family planning services and chronic disease (diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, asthma, sickle cell, tuberculosis, etc.) prevention. These programs are offered to community organizations including schools, churches, sororities/fraternities, and other community groups.
GSI also collaborates with the Mississippi State Department of Mental Health and other related agencies to offer education on substance abuse including alcohol and illegal drug use. GSI serves as a referral organization for individuals who seek treatment for substance abuse and other mental health issues. Other mental health programs include:
- Behavioral Management
- Clinical Depression
- Grief Management
- Alcohol-Drug Counseling
- Domestic Violence
Social Programs
GSI collaborates with community organizations including schools and other community based organizations to offer programs to address negative or high-risk behavior of youths. The goal is to effect change in the target group’s attitude toward damaging life choices including substance use and sexual activity. GSI will serve as a catalyst to highlight positive attributes of youth including community service, scholastic achievement, and talent. These efforts will encourage youth to continue to strive as productive and competitive citizens within the Greater Yazoo County, Mississippi area.
GSI works with students of the Yazoo City and Yazoo County School Districts to include them in some of GSI’s meetings to teach and involve them in the meeting and brainstorming process. This process will help develop future leaders.
